About the Program
Women of Color often take the lead in supporting loved ones and broader communities and often care for themselves last. The impetus for this cohort is an acknowledgment that women of color are at the center of movement building and are often not recognized for that work or afforded the space to prioritize their self-care. The Women of Color in Leadership space has offered this cohort of women leaders of the global majority from around the country a moment to pause and gather with one another for respite, renewal, and support.
This cohort was created in 2017 and has engaged in a few iterations:
  • November 2018: The cohort gathered for a second time for an in-person retreat at Mohonk Mountain House in the Hudson Valley.
  • Between April and September 2020: artEquity hosted five intimate virtual gatherings as a space for processing and support during the height of the pandemic.
  • October 2024: Reflecting on the role and leadership of Black women in this current moment, artEquity engaged with members of this cohort by sending a message and gift to acknowledge their emotional labor, affirm their leadership, and provide a reminder of community.
  • 2020 to present: artEquity continues to support the cohort members individually by providing thought partnership and strategic support of their leadership through trainings and resources for their organizations. artEquity also engages with several cohort members as core facilitators and program partners.
