Kendra Ann Flournoy is a Detroit-bred multi-hyphenate artist: playwright, visual artist, producer, educator, and arts administrator. Spirituality, the dreamscape, family, and Black culture are the wells that she draws from. Her work explores the interconnectivity of these planes alongside the impact of social issues. She is dedicated to crafting work that captures the complexity, splendor, and vastness of Black life and culture. Through her work, she aims to create pathways to healing and transformative experiences.

Kendra has developed work in DrAW and Más Paginas, women writers’ collectives led by Nikki Brake-Silla and Christina Pumariega, and at The Lark. Her plays have been featured in the Billie Holiday Theatre’s 2019 50in50 monologue showcase, The Black Lady Theatre’s 2019 Foundation: New Writings Series, and GPTC’s 2024 New Play Conference. She’s also a 2024 recipient of Detroit Public Theatre’s TAG Residency.

She co-founded Face Off Theatre Company, a nonprofit founded and led by Black women in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and has served on leadership teams for multiple arts organizations including The Lark, Detroit Repertory Theatre, and Ojai Playwrights Conference.

Recently, she’s ventured into film, exploring both writing and production, and has had the opportunity to work on over half a dozen independent films. Kendra received her BA in English and MFA in Playwriting from Western Michigan University.
