zau chea is a harmonious blend of identities: agender, queer, Teochew-Khmer, child of Khmer Rouge survivors, born and raised in the Deep South.

She has worn many hats as a facilitator, plant worker, multimedia/new media artist, DJ, abolitionist youth organizer, and full time dog mom

zau formerly served as both a Youth Action Fellow and later the Campaign Organizer for the Carolina Youth Action Project. As the Youth Action Fellow, zau facilitated political education workshops surrounding transformative justice and reproductive justice. Moving into the Campaign Organizer role, she began working with queer and trans youth cohorts in Charleston, SC, to build safe environments within their schools without the police and push for queer-affirming comprehensive sex education.

zau believes that the voices and experiences of young people carry the keys to pave our way forward. A balance between honoring the organizing legacies before us and listening to / building skills with youth in front of us will guide us to liberation.

She dreams of an abundant world where capitalism is dismantled and working to survive is replaced by life-affirming infrastructures of care.

She envisions her future tending to a seasonal herb garden to make medicine as an act of love and using art as her visual journal. Oh! and also somehow healing her ridiculously intense cat allergy… She loves cats.
