zau chea is an agender experimental new media artist based in the Deep South. Her work and values are shaped by being a queer child of Khmer Rouge refugees.

zau’s practice centers documenting the quiet, everyday moments of lived experiences, creating space to understand folks beyond their accolades and traumas. She often finds that inquiring about joy and more commonplace moments can gently awaken memories of the past and create pathways for storytelling, remembrance, and connection across generations.

zau has worn many hats as a facilitator, plant worker, DJ, motion graphic designer, muralist, abolitionist youth organizer, family archivist, and full time dog mom. Find her doodling a weird bird that she saw in the park, or playfully bantering in the Zoom chat.
